GLOBE WILLOW (salix matsudana 'umbraculifera')---outdoor,
The willows, with their fresh leaves, take the most prominent place among the trees of spring. They remind us of the useful willow wands, and we can dream of their drooping branches swaying in the summer breeze. The most notable feature is its drooping foliage. Even in a bonsai the branches sometimes grow as long as 3 feet, a fact which makes it necessary to place the pot high so that the cascading strips of green may be seen to advantage from below. The globe is often the first willow to leaf in the spring.
