One of the prettiest wild flowers found in mountainous country in the early summer is the yama-fuji or wild wisteria. It is often found in bloom amid the fresh foliage down a precipice, within reach of none but birds and monkeys. It often entwines round a tree and, making its way up, crowns the tree with flowers. It has long and oval leaves; and flowers in May-June, then again in August-September, that grow in long, slender clusters.
